Having worked in the Moroccan carpet industry as a designer for more than 9 years, Abouzahra has an acute awareness of the disadvantaged position of women artisans. The popularity of Moroccan rugs has grown exponentially in recent years, and is one of the country’s strongest and most lucrative exports yet the weavers, who are the artists of these creations, are some of the lowest paid in the supply chain. Morocco has an incredible range of heritage crafts but many of these are at risk of disappearing.
